A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness.

In medieval culture, an event like a royal christening is not a private party; it’s the public social event of the year. To not invite any person of rank to such an event is a deadly insult.

Maleficent is certainly someone you wouldn’t want at a party, but she’s also someone powerful enough that only a fool would ever dare treat her with such blatant disrespect. The only way the King and Queen could possibly have gotten away with not inviting Maleficent was to not invite any of the fairies at all; inviting the other fairies and excluding her is explicitly taking sides in the conflict between the fairy factions.

Which means they made themselves her sworn enemies, and she responded by treating them as such from then on. If you actually get into analyzing the social dynamics of the scene, it’s very clear that Maleficent was willing to show mercy at first by giving the King and Queen a chance to apologize for their disrespect to her. She doesn’t curse Aurora until after she gives them that chance and they throw it back in her face with further disrespect.

And yeah, if the King and Queen had done the properly respectful thing and invited her, Maleficent would have given Aurora a scary awesome present. Moreover so would the other fairies, because at that point both sides would be using it as an opportunity to show off and one-up each other. What they gave her before Maleficent showed up was basically just trivial party favors by fairy standards.

How do you know so much about the social dynamics of medieval fairies

How don’t you

Do you really believe only humans use Tumblr?

Jon, by k.p.k

(via towritepoems)

When I was fourteen years old,
I was dating a young man of sixteen who
was six feet and two inches tall and
made me feel like I was gold -
the type of gold that sits in vaults
for years, still trying to glisten,
knowing it can be polished,
but left to gather dust and
lose value.

I was fourteen years old and
still trying to figure out what the
world wanted to do with me while
he was whispering what he would
like to do to me and saying that
if I really loved him,
I would.

I was fourteen years old when
I started to dig a graveyard in myself,
burying my worries and fears of what
was happening because I was certain
this was a part of growing up.

I was barely even a teenager the
first time I had sex because I had
told him I wanted to wait until
I was married and his words resounded,
“You’re going to end up with
somebody like me anyway,
so why put it off?” as his hand wrapped
around my ring finger like a vice.

I was fourteen years old when
I tried to run away for the first time
but the monster had broken
my hymen and crawled up to
live in my heart.

And I was fourteen years old
the first time a man slapped me
across the face because I told
him I didn’t want to have sex
and he told me to get over it because
it was just “a joke” when
all I knew was that the
punchline had been
his hand against my cheek.

I was fourteen years old,
and three years later,
I still flinch.

Relative by K.P.K

(via towritepoems)

At 2:21 in the morning, it’s hard to see what keeps you going. You’re stuck in that strange place where it’s sort of nice to know you’ll always have a cold spot in the bed when both sides of the pillow get warm, but that’s just a sharp-nailed fact scraping itself down the realization that you’re still going to bed by yourself. You are comfortable but lonely as hell. You’re tired but not sure quite of what. So you roll over and close your eyes and wonder if maybe nights are darker for the people who are sleeping alone.

Just Like That by k.p.k

(via towritepoems)

They say in a collision
that there are three
areas of impact:

First, the vehicle
with the object,
followed by your
body with the
vehicle, and,
finally,
your internal organs
with your body.

And every time
I heard this,
I always thought
that I was too
smart for that,
that I knew better
than that,
that I would always
be careful,
that I would always
look out for
myself.

But now,
it makes sense,
how a heart
can smash
so quickly,

when we went
from 100
to 0 just
like
that.

Bubbles: she demanded that she be sent to jail like any other man.

Yes

Feminism isn’t about female superiority or special treatment, it’s about female EQUALITY.
The fact that many men, and even many women who claim to be feminists can’t get this through their head blows me away.

Learning to let go should be learned before learning to get. Life should be touched, not strangled. You’ve got to relax, let it happen at times, and at others move forward with it.
